Common questions
Your plastering questions, answered.
How much will my plastering cost?
Your quote depends on the area to plaster, the condition of the surfaces, preparation and access. Send a brief description to get started. I'll arrange a visit if needed to confirm the price before you decide to go ahead.
When could you fit the work in?
Include any preferred dates or decorating plans in your enquiry. I'll discuss current availability and the likely timescale for your job before we agree a date.
What will I need to prepare at home?
We'll discuss access, moving furniture and anything that needs clearing before work starts. I protect floors and surrounding areas and keep the working area organised during the job.
What information do you need to provide a quote?
Start with your postcode, a short description and how you'd like me to reply. Photos and approximate measurements are helpful but optional. I'll ask for any further details needed to prepare your quote.
Can you skim over existing plaster?
Often, yes, if the existing plaster is sound and well attached. Loose or damaged areas may need repairing or removing first. I'll check the surfaces and explain the preparation needed before quoting.
Can you cover an Artex ceiling?
Depending on its condition, an Artex ceiling may be prepared and skimmed or overboarded before plastering. Older textured coatings may need additional checks before they are disturbed.
How long does fresh plaster take to dry?
Drying time varies with thickness, the surface underneath, ventilation, temperature and the size of the room. Fresh plaster should be allowed to dry fully and evenly before it is decorated.
Do you take on smaller plaster repairs?
Yes. I take on small wall and ceiling repairs, including damaged patches and gaps left after electrical or plumbing work. Send a short description and I'll advise on the next step.
